Still on Target
I’ve been up in the loft all day, trying out the Westalee Rulers I bought at Festival of Quilts in August, whilst keeping an eye
out for Clue 4 of Bonnie Hunter’s latest mystery quilt ‘En Provence’, as I wanted to get on with it before the busy few
weeks coming up.
As soon as I saw that the instructions were out, I broke off and got stuck in. Here are my 40 finished
Tri-Rec units (half the number required for the full size version) made from
the dark purples and the neutrals – all scrappy – plus one spare neutral triangle
because I miscounted again! (Visit LINK UP from
Monday to see everyone else’s blog pictures. It is such fun to see all the different
fabrics other people have chosen.)
Back to those
rulers; It’s the first chance I’ve had to practice with them on something not too
precious, as I’ve been working on pieces for other people and things for the
craft fair these past few months. They worked quite well but I had difficulty with the ‘spinning’ ones that are pinned to the quilt. The pin underneath keeps catching on the bed of the machine and gets stuck. The first attempt below was very wobbly even after I unpicked it three times.
The second attempt was actually not too bad. But I am sure there is an easier way of doing it, so I’ve posted my problems on Facebook to a group of beginner
long-armers and already have had some helpful suggestions! Practice makes perfect.
Happy Quilting
Everyone!
Janet

ReplyDeleteSo many pretty purples. I have to wait with the rest of my purple blocks until I've ordered some new fabrics.
ReplyDeleteOh no! You ordered NEW fabric!!!
DeleteYour purples just pop. Yay! for finishing Clue #4.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on keeping up with the clues.
ReplyDeleteI'm collecting tools to use rulers with my domestic machine. My goal for 2017!
You have a much better choice in the US!
DeleteHappy stitching! I love being caught up but that is sure to change.
ReplyDeleteOh what pretty colors! Congrats on keeping up!
ReplyDeleteThat's a big bunch of pretty purples!
ReplyDeleteI've watched a couple of videos on using those Westalee rulers, but it looks to me like I'd need a couple more hands...
I can't find any videos for the long arm to see if anyone has the same issue.
DeleteHave you had any good tips for the the problem with that pin. I have that trouble too
ReplyDeleteGreat job on getting those mystery blocks out so fast! Your quilting looks perfect to me!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful deep purples in your blocks. I love purple, but didn't have the right ones in the stash for this mystery. The quilting looks lovely, hopefully you'll get some good tips from your query.
ReplyDeleteI have that same Westalee template. I'm using it on a sit-down machine, though. Although there is one point in the template design where I go wonky due to the pin catching if I'm not careful, my main problem is stabbing myself with the pin!
