Purple Haze

Clue 3 finished!

Bonnie Hunter’s latest mystery quilt ‘En Provence’ is coming along nicely, although I am not sure I will be so on top of it over the Christmas period – I may have withdrawal symptoms by NewYear. This week I got to play with all those lovely purples and mauves I picked up last week. The instructions were to make 168 four patches, like the neutrals in week 1. But I am aiming for a smaller quilt so I made 84 (plus a few spares where I miscounted –again!) This is the first time I’ve done a mystery quilt and it is such fun wondering how it will all come together.  (Visit http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2016/12/mystery-monday-link-up-part-3.html from Monday, to see the latest linkup on Bonnie's website, for pictures of other people’s progress from participants all over the world.)

Also this week, I said goodbye to my ‘Scrappy Stars’ quilt that I exhibited at Festival of Quilts in 2015. Much as I enjoyed making it, I have nowhere to display it in my house, as it is 7ft x 8ft and the wrong colours for my bedroom. Yes- by that I mean it is not pink!

I sold it on ebay. Although you never get the price you think it is worth (given the cost of fabric, 60 hours of machine quilting and countless hours piecing that border), it seems like it has found a good home.

The buyer tells me “It is to go into a collection of mainly old quilts that exists to educate and inspire” and she asked for a short resumé about me and the quilt. So I am very happy about that.

And now I have room to make something else!
Happy Quilting Everyone!
Janet

  1. Congrats on your sell. We rarely get what they are worth when we sell our quilts unfortunately. People aren't willing to pay for our time and barely will pay for the supplies. I figure if I get the money back for the supplies I'm okay because I will be quilting anyway.

  2. I think it would be hard to say goodbye to a quilt. But if you have to make the room getting some cash is good. Love the outer border, the random lights make it sparkle.
I suspect the mystery is going to be even more challenging over the next weeks.

  3. It sounds like the quilt you sold will be appreciated, anyway.

I love the mystery process, too. It is more fun that I would have imagined to make something without knowing what I'm making.

  4. Your purple 4-patches look very good, but I love your scrappy stars quilt. The layout is so restful and the quilting is just out of this world.

  5. I, too, am making a smaller quilt - but mine will be 1/4th of the mystery. That quilt is fabulous! I couldn't have parted with it. A cleared wall would have become its home. Thanks for sharing.

  7. So happy that you've done your blocks for this week. I just got new fabric to finish clue 3. Tomorrow we'll get a new clue. Congratulations on your sell. We never get enough for out quilts, but when I sell I think that it will give me monew to buy new fabrics. Looking forward to seeing what you do next week with your MQ.

  8. Good for you to try a mystery quilt; I've not gotten the nerve yet but am tempted. I think your quilt was beautiful and you are right to think it has gone to a good home. Happy Stitching!
